Welcome to the new HeartWeb website

The website has been extensively redesigned. This will fit in well with the new courses that are being delivered through University of Melbourne. We are also preparing for a primarily web-based delivery of course content.

You will now be able to log on to the site and view your own course material and download it at your convenience. The course content itself will be in Adobe Acrobat format. You will also be able to book practical short courses online, and there is a new Forum section where students can share their experience with each other.

We sincerely hope that you like it, and welcome any feedback that you may have.

Structure of the New Postgraduate courses

From July 2009, we will be implementing a new suite of courses which build upon our highly successful Postgraduate diploma of Perioperative and Critical Care Echocardiography course.  We now provide for a much broader range of options.  The new Certificate level course represents half the body of work of a Diploma, and will therefore be applicable for many specialists who wish to gain relatively rapid training an ultrasound that is very relevant to their own clinical area of specialty.

The second key change has been to implement the Core and Optional components to each course.  Therefore, approximately 50% of the content of the Certificate and of the Diploma course will be selected by the student to best reflect their own clinical interest and specialty.

The final aspect is the notion of Nested courses.  What this means, is that all students must enrole in the Certificate in the first instance (50 points).  If they wish to then proceed and complete a Diploma (100 points), the Certificate course already completed will count for 50% of the Diploma course; should they wish to complete the Masters course (150 points), then the diploma course work will be recognized as being the first 100 points of this course.  The new Diploma course will be directly equivalent to the old Diploma course including the same course materials, scope and knowledgebase. Hands On Workshops

The latest workshop, H.A.R.T.scan® is proving to be extremely popular, with additional courses being scheduled to cater for those who had missed out on the courses that were scheduled earlier this year.  This course teaches specialists a limited transthoracic echocardiography study which is qualitative, rather than quantitative, in order to better understand basic haemodynamic state basic valve interrogation.  The other courses including ultrasound guided nerve blocks and vascular access continued.  Read more....

Online booking

We have implemented a new online booking system so that people are able to see how many places are available on his courses and booked them in real time.  We are able to accept credit card details online, with processing of the payment within 24 hours. We are hoping to implement a fully online electronic payment system later in the year. If you have missed out on the course, you are able to register your interest on the waiting list for the course should there be any late withdrawals. Darwin course  Sydney course

The new format for the Tutorials

We are introducing all new course materials in the Adobe Acrobat format, with embedded multimedia files.  This we hope will provide a much more convenient and simple medium for students to learn from, in addition to resolving many of the hardware and software issues that we have previously encountered with multiple operating systems versions of software.  It does mean that all students need to download the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat reader.  We are also implementing a new security process that integrates completely with Adobe Acrobat.  Detailed explanations will be provided to students.  When the student opens the PDF document for the first time, they will need to be connected to the Internet and authenticate this document against our server which will then release the document for reading.  Subsequently, a student will be able to read this material without being connected to the Internet.
