Introducing the New Security system (Adobe Live Rights Management software)

With the new course materials being distributed on the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, students will be required to authenticate their material against our Melbourne University server. Typically this will only need to be done once for each document. Please note that there will be detailed instructions provided elsewhere for students on exactly how this process works and also a step-by-step instruction guide.

All students will be required to install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 9.0). Alternatively, they may already own Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional versions of the software, but it will still need to be the latest version available. Please see this site to obtain the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The students will receive their tutorials either on a DVD that is posted to them, or by accessing this website and downloading the tutorials from the student section after they have logged on. A portfolio appears as a single Adobe Acrobat file, but in fact contains multiple files which can be selectively open. The course materials for students will have restricted access and can only be accessed by the students themselves.

The students will open the tutorial PDF file, and they will be prompted to provide their login credentials. This will include their e-mail address and a password. They will be required to be connected to the Internet during this process, so that the PDF document can be authenticated against our Melbourne University server which contains the Adobe Live Rights Management software. Once this process is complete, the student will then be able to read this material without being connected to the Internet.
