| Introduction to the new course material format
In order to improve the experience of reviewing the course materials for students, we have reformatted course materials into the Adobe Acrobat format. The latest version of the Acrobat program allows for properly embedded video within the page for the first time. This will have the advantage of greatly reducing the size of the files and the videos that we have traditionally use. It also combines all of the files that are usually associated with tutorials into a single file which will be able to be downloaded from the new website at the convenience of the students. We are also finally able to offer a single format for our tutorials that can be equally accessed by any computer platform, irrespective of which version it may be.
We are hoping in the future to offer online or downloadable case reviews, but currently the file sizes remained very large. Also, where students are expected to operate custom software so that they perform direct measurements for the purposes of the report, they will require licensed software to be installed on the computer. For practical purposes, we will continue to distribute the case reports on DVD.
For tutorials, and new security process will be implemented. This is called Live Rights Management, and is a security solution provided by the Adobe Corporation. We will explain this further in a separate page.
We are also implementing electronic examinations and feedback forms in the form of Adobe Acrobat forms. Not only will this be much more convenient for students, but it will enhance the efficiency of our office by automating electronic responses into our databases and spreadsheets. |
