Effective Learning Content

The concept of an electronic echocardiography report form is based on the need to accurately document echocardiography findings in a consistent manner. The aims include ease of use, consistency and for it to be sufficiently comprehensive for all users. It must also have application for research, teaching and QA.  This database has evolved from a prototype electronic echocardiography report form that we developed previously fro use in cardiac surgery.  In developing and using that form, it has taught us the many advantages of computer-based reporting.  Firstly, numerous prompts exist to help develop good reporting habits; secondly there is subtle pressure to do a complete study every-time.  Although a field can be left blank and the program will force you to fill it in, we have noticed that people will tend to go back and review the study or do additional views in order to produce a more complete study.  Thirdly, the report printout is a document which can be filed as a paper copy or saved an electronic copy and e-mailed to additional users.  In this version, we've also built-in a screen set for teaching and quality assurance.  This system will not only serve as your logbook, but will act as a quality assurance tool to identify what categories of patients benefit most from echocardiography, and to check the impact of echocardiography on emerging areas of use.  This system is designed for personal use, but can be used via a server for departmental use as well.

We have adopted the ASE recommendations for a comprehensive transthoracic report as a minimum data set, and added extra fields to cater for the perioperative environment.

For MAC users
This program does not run directly on a MAC computer.  It can be run, however, on a MAC using a PC emulator program.  You will need to install a PC emulator program on to your computer.

The academic version will be sufficient, and as a student, you can access academic prices.  Once you are running the PC emulator, then install and run the program using the same directions below.
