Radial artery
This information leaflet deals with the history of the radial artery use in coronary surgery from the early 1970s when Prof Carpentier pioneered its use at the beginning of the coronary surgery era. It later fell into disrepute in the 1970s and was revived in the early 1990s after Prof Acar in Paris published his early series with 100% of radial artery grafts angiogrammed being patent. It is now very widely used, and indeed is used for most of the grafts that have been performed in Melbourne over the past 10 years.
