His is currently the Clinical Research Fellow at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, and holds honorary appointments at Monash University as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Haematology and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. He gained his medical degree from the University of Western Australia, with a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Melbourne following a period of research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, and undertook postgraduate training in internal medicine and haematology at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and The Alfred Hospital Melbourne.
